Criticism like this annoys me! Somebody is courageous enough to go out to protest and people criticize them for not doing it right. Fuck that. It’s such counterproductive mainstream Democratic Party thinking. ā€œIt plays into Republican bullshitā€ If there were no Mexican flags, Republicans would be photoshopping them in and showing them on Fox News just the same. They are racist fascists and whatever anyone wants to do to stand in their way is awesome. And fuck CNN for devoting space to this stupid piece. There are Marines and National Guard illegally deployed against Americans! That is the only part of the story that matters. Stop it with the clickbait bullshit and do your jobs. (none of this is about @mariamaria who posted it!)
Raul Hinojosa-Ojeda, associate professor of Chicana, Chicano and Central American Studies at UCLA, said invoking flags to demonize protesters is a ā€œwell-documented move on the part of the Trump administration, knowing that every single demonstration of this type brings out the Mexican flag.ā€

Right? I myself had mixed feelings about this but I also think it’s pertinent to show those perspectives, not to comply to their desire on how protestors should portray themselves, since they’re pretty much treating it like its a performance, when in reality, people are fighting for their lives, but rather for people to be aware at the extremist ideas that are taking up space in such places considered mainstream, which I think plays into the normalization of fascist discourse, having it be disguised as ā€œjust sharing everyone’s opinionā€. I should have clarified that previously (sorry), but instead I originally included one of the paragraphs that talks about the tendency to caricature war by antagonizing flags, which evidently gets displayed here because of the trivialities they get into in that same article :(

I don’t know what the strategy is, but for peoplewho’ve never been involved, finding an organization and actually meeting with it are enormous first steps, so I don’t want to underestimate how difficult it can be to do something new. (source: my whole life) And most people will not know what is going on in the first place. So what I, for one, need to do is to pick one thing and try it. Then do it consistently. Focus on the local where I can make the most difference. Then, when protests get organized or just happen, go out to support them. I also think liberals should have a ton of American flags at protests and rallies; the right wing cannot keep claiming our flag as their symbol. I don’t know how helpful I’ve been but I didn’t like that thishad no replies yet

The occupation persists, the oppression persists, the torture persists. The occupiers are psychotic and their work is never finished. People who’ve paid attention won’t be surprised by this photo from Gaza.

I’m 50, I say because that makes me unusual in this context. I paid [redacted] for a ticket to the Eras Tour after listening to tswift for 3 weeks, and it was worth it. In second grade my teacher gave kids birthday spankings over her knee, and in sixth grade my teacher told my mom I hadn’t blossomed yet. I’m a good friend, mostly to people on the internet. I’m good at conversing with strangers. I’m usually the oldest person at the show but don’t feel like it. I’m good at being helpful. I’m sarcastic and funny and make myself laugh. I’m a good graphic designer and a conscientious driver. I’m a good photographer and I can successfully follow recipes. I don’t use my Peloton enough. I did a lot of caregiving for my mom for several years, and we enjoyed spending time together even if it was mostly in waiting rooms and my car. The fastest I ever ran a mile was eight minutes and six seconds. I drove the same car for 20 years and then replaced it with another one. I enjoy tipping, giving money to people on the street and Disneyland. I am a fan of baseball, Formula 1 racing and the Criterion Channel. I solve about 80% of New York Times crosswords. I take Prozac and Wellbutrin, and take Trazodone to sleep through the night. I wish I had a glassed in solarium so I could sleep in it on rainy nights. I would like to have a pet cat and a garage. I could happily live eating only cereal and fruit. I overshare on the internet and undershare elsewhere. āœŒļøšŸ’›
