ik it is just a YA fantasy book and it would be way cooler of me to mention a more adult book that i love but ever since i read this in middle school it instantly became one of my favorites. it has magic! crime! gay ppl & queer love! poc! disabled rep! discussions of ptsd and trauma! addiction! and more!!! plus it is apart of a larger book universe (aka the grishaverse) and has an equally banger direct sequel if you are itching for more. plus ig there was a netflix adaptation that combined all the grishaverse stuff into one slightly loveable train wreck of a show but thats neither here nor there.

I love this duology!! It's so so good and the romance is so not forced and they all find their natural paths. And yeah all the other things you said!

i know its a children’s book BUT HEAR ME OUT!!! it’s such a good book and if you know me then you know how much i love fantasy, especially when it’s dark fairytale based. Adam Gidwitz is an amazing author and adds a comedy element to these stories in the best way. If you’d like something quick, funny, and a little dark and quirky you’d love this series

If we were villains: it’s one of my new favs by ML Rios! It’s about a group of Shakespeare scholars that go to school in this prestigious university in BFE. They are doing a production of a play when someone turns up dead with no suspect. It’s super thrilling and an amazing use of shakespeare’s text to tie the story together. 100% recommend if ur into horror/murder mystery! Crowns of Nyaxia: This is a series by carissa broadbent that (currently) spans 2 main books as well as a couple spinoff books. The two main books are some of my faves in the fantasy genre. it’s hunger games with vampires! there’s amazing fight scenes, gore, poetry, and a little smut if you’re into that. I read both of these books this summer and this is the first time that i’ve read a spinoff in a series bc i loved the characters that much. enjoy expanding your horizons!!!!!

I first found it randomly at a bookstore when I was 16. I was very into fantasy and gays at the time (still am), and this was the first book I've read that combines both. It's such a fun take on the whole "chosen ones" trope, and you somehow root for every one of the main characters, even when they do some fucked up shit. I highly recommend it to anyone who's into queer witches and good character development :)
