a young woman obsessed with skincare retraces her late mother’s steps to uncover dark secrets in this surreal examination of identity, insecurity, and the institutions that profit from both. if you liked Bunny by the same author, you’ll love Rouge.
SUCH a wild ride, we’ve got an affair, a celeb psychic medium, an inter-dimensional cloud of ancestral grief, a failing marriage (and a pregnancy), the Russian Revolution, generational trauma, Soviet orphanages, and at least three questionable women —I feel like this is a superb book for the Moshfegh, batuman, emma cline, Mona Awad crowds
I'm recommending this one specifically because it helped me really get back into reading after years of neglecting my literacy. Super fun vampire novel about growing up, womanhood, family, art, and being true to yourself despite the consequences.
