Henry Beston accounts his year at The Cape in a tiny house by the shores of Eastham. There's wildlife and weather observations, shipwreck stories (and mentions of shipwreck looters), and just general talk of life and locals in the outermost regions of The Cape. It's thoughtful and beautiful and has honestly become a staple to my summers at this point.

I’ve spent my whole life visiting the cape, both to see family and to vacation, so it is with plenty of bias I say that it is an easy favorite spot of mine. The coast is peppered with those absolute classic coastal towns, each with their own “flavor” — local shops, lobster shacks, deep-sea fishing excursions, there’s everything you could want - but most of what you’ll do is the perfect amount of nothing. And what can match the relaxation of a stay at a small seaside home in one of the many quaint cape towns? Recently, we stayed at a cozy little BNB with books shelved all over the house (over doorways, up the staircase), and I was reminded just how perfect it is to walk to the local beachfront with a random book you did no research on.

I love visiting this park whether it’s clear and sunny or gray and foggy. Different vibes but always beautiful with the iconic rocky coast. The waves were pretty big today so it was a pleasure to take in the sights and sounds of them crashing in their ebb and flow, washing over the rocks, receding back into the ocean, rinse and repeat. It’s already breathtaking to be by the ocean in all her beauty and vastness and to be reminded of how small we really are. Rocky coasts like at Two Lights also offer that feeling of smallness in a temporal sense, as we only witness an infinitesimal moment within the grand timeline of coastal erosion, while sitting on the rocks that have been shaped and continue to be shaped by the ocean. Anyways, highly recommend visiting if you happen to be in southern Maine, healing is only a 20 minute drive from Portland :)

In college I went to the same Mexican place every day for a burrito, got the same coffee at the same Dunkin’ Donuts every morning Years later im in a new area following the same philosophy, I eat a chicken bruschetta wrap at the same place every time I go out for lunch and still get the same coffee at the same local Dunkin’ Donuts every morning. I frequent the same full service gas station, go to the same mechanic, Kevin, buy groceries from the same local mart, get my hair cut by the same barber, buy any and all hardware misc from the same little hardware store, Jeds. When your order gets prepared the second you walk in, and you have a relationship with your daily’s, your life is in a better place.
