[long rec ahead] i can’t take all the credit for this rec bc that would be unfair to my mom. she’s been loyal to the acca kappa italy 1 vent hair brush (i believe this is their cheapest brush) since god knows for how long, and had to replace hers like two years ago! i’ve only owned flimsy cheap ones until my mom had to buy her second one.  i wouldn’t say i have high standards for a hair brush, but some things that i tend to look for in one are:  - should be low maintenance - ^ no cushion or rubber padding (water gets inside and i don’t like that) - base/handle should be one solid material, - no paint coat either  - durable - gentle on the scalp and hair, strong enough to detangle - bristles should at least be 17 cm long - reasonably priced  - tips of the bristles shouldn’t be covered with paint (recurring issue for wet brush brand is the tips fall off) and these brushes from acca kappa check all of the boxes. btw my hair is wavy and damaged from years of bleaching 🤩 italy 1 (bristles are ~19 cm long): suitable for wet hair, great for detangling, brushing feels like a scalp massage airy 1 (~20 cm for black bristles, ~25 cm for nylon monofilament bristles in between the black ones): interesting design… reminds me of an x chromosome. adds sheen to hair, love this for removing frizz and making sure my ponytail/bun is neat.

Taking care of yourself can feel hideously step-by-step now… scientific and ingredient-laden.  Brushing your hair still feels whimsical and wild! It’s genuinely a therapeutic process for me, I think because I have a lot of hair and untangling it sometimes requires brute force and since there is a clear before and after to behold, it always makes me feel better if I’m feeling low. There’s a lot of propaganda around messy hair (Chloe S., French women), but life is about getting to know yourself. So if you’re feeling burnt out on cold little serums and vials of goo (all love though) or are tired of letting the rats' nests rule, try brushing your hair more. Caveat that you need to find the hair brush that works for you—doesn’t have to be made of boar bristles and mother of pearl,I like the OG brush from Olivia Garden over at Ulta.

I’ve tried a few different brushes for curls and this is the only one I’ve ever liked! It’s actually amazing, the curls are currrllllling. Here’s how I use it in my routine!(I have 3a/b/c combo curls) 1. after rinsing out conditioner, I use a wide tooth comb to get rid of any tangles and run leave in conditioner through (still in the shower!) 2. Go upside down and use this curl brush to brush my hair away from the scalp (this will give your roots more volume!) 3) add a little more leave-in to the tips and wrap hair in a tshirt (still upside down!) 4) outside of shower, dampen hair again and scrunch gel through hair tiling sideways in both directions then add heat protectant 5) diffuse upside down first and then side to side on high heat, medium strength I hope that made sense, it’s a lot of upside down and sideways time but either way the brush is great!! I get a lot more volume and very defined curls 😊

there is something so deeply intimate about knowing a person’s penmanship. you could know someone for years even but not know what their handwriting looks like. i had a coworker (turned friend) at my old job tell me how when she misses me she looks at the post-it with the passwords i had written for my work accounts. (sharing mine here bc in my head i’m friends with everyone who comes across this post. pi.fyi community has gotten me through some tough times last year and i love learning new things through people’s recs here!!)

it still baffles me that there are people out there who heavily rely on chatgpt, maybe even have fully replaced google, to make the decisions for them. idk which is worse using chatgpt or tiktok as a search engine bc what the actual fuck ?? 😭
