this book was life changing for me when i was 17, donna tart tells the story of a young theo decker after he survived a terrorist attack in the met which killed his mom and left him in possession of the titular goldfinch, tart manages to weave an almost fantastical story which somehow remains grounded in reality. theo is an unreliable narrator who exist almost outside of time, the prose is incredible the characters are unforgettable truly one of the most wonderful books ive ever read

i’m stunned. Sula is an immediate icon to me… how have i never read this before? i love the way Toni writes, such smart and precise cutting of the fat. you can see this world she builds so easily and feel so much in just 160 pages. now THIS is a NOVEL!! i feel strongly that if i had read this in high school i would be sooo diff…. like damn they really had me read Old Man and the Sea instead …whatever i stopped reading this halfway thru on my Kindle to go buy a hard copy bc i knewww this was a book i needed to own. absolutely no notes I simply loved
