This panel—from Columbia’s Biologic Show—is one of my favorite pieces of horror. Ever. Of any form of media. Columbia’s work, from the earlier material—more akin to Bill Sienkiewicz and Dave McKean—to his later Fleischer animation-influenced work; it’s all totally genius, insanely haunting, and truly disturbing.

i’m not much of a horror girly but i admire their work so much! reminds me of the sick geniuses who designed the fucked-up bear in Annihilation. and the blood-crazed transcription-error cat in Michael Crichton’s book, Timeline

Horror is my favorite genre and I’ve posted lots of horror movie recs on my profile so I’m gonna shake it up and say the horror manga of Junji Ito. Lots of his work is body horror or surreal horror, his whole thing is taking normal and everyday things and making them unsettling. I recommend starting with one of his short story collections, because they’re accessible easy reads and give you the best picture of what he’s all about. But his magnum opus is Uzumaki, which is about a town terrorized by spirals; spirals in nature, spirals in man-made objects, spirals in the human body, etc. that eventually drive the whole town to madness. I’m also dying to read his adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.

I love horror media, so much so that I have made a video on the on the philosophy of horror, but Courage the Cowardly Dog will ALWAYS be my favorite. It is unironically the pinnacle of the horror genre. It is visually inventive, the audiosensory experience goes beyond dialogue and music, the villains are disturbing and feel very real, the episode that approach social commentary don't hold back, and even as an adult, I can still think of episodes that terrify me.
