my anywhere order is everything toasted plain cream cheese (this is to evaluate the spot using a standard point of reference) if I’m at Leon’s (shoutout Leon’s) it’s a plain bagel toasted w jalapeño cream cheese and hot honey which is as close as I can get (in New York) to the bagel I dream of at poppy bagels in Oakland which uses serrano cream cheese and local honey Honorable mentions include tomato if its in season and they using something sexy like an earlygirl or a brandywine or a nice heirloom and the lemon olive oil situation at courage bagels in LA

@MARXINISTA All imma say is… the NYT said the best bagels in the world are in Berkeley…. There is a renaissance occurring .. Also in earnest NY has excellent bagels but the market is saturated with mid bagels like they think they can sell tourists circle bread and call it a bagel and they’re right they can but the artistry can be difficult to find in such a cacophony of mediocrity also for the love of god someone give me a good bagel rec in Bushwick cause knickerbocker bagels is so mid and it hurts me to hear it recd

I’ve debated toasted vs. untoasted from a bagel place before, I like my bagels to be CRISPY AND CRUNCHY!! veggie cream cheese is just the best tasting in my opinion, and anything more than that on a bagel just makes it into a fill on meal that’ll sit with me for the rest of the day BUT If I’m at home, or at a place that offered this - pesto feta cream cheese!! On either an every bagel or bakery sourdough, lox, avocado, chevre/goat’s milk cream cheese, and capers— my bagel shop does seasonal veg, so this might have radishes or pickled red onion, and if I make it at home I add bacon and a fried egg— it’s nutrient dense, salty, and I don’t eat anything else until dinner.
