I wanted to be whisked away and have a protagonist I could project myself onto. I loved Inkheart, Savvy, Maximum Ride (probably would not like it today but I remember really liking it back then), Graceling, the Percy Jackson books, Harry Potter unfortunately enough, etc. Just anything that transported me and showed someone like me winning lol
Yes to magic tree house!!! I wanted that trunk of clothes so bad. I was one that read the American girl books but never had a doll, and no I won't carry that bitterness to my grave. Felicity is my problematic fav. Tintin also falls in that category. Guess I loved adventure stories!
As an older child, it was Ella enchanted, holes, chasing Redbird, and Harry Potter (rip)
my absolute favorite book as a kid was trial by journal by kate kline, and as a tween it was the year of secret assignments, both of which are a combo of letters/emails/diary entries etc
I also liked speculative fiction/more grounded sci fi and fantasy:
-heir apparent by vivian vande velde, a vr middle school novel
-12 impossible things before breakfast by jane yolen, a series of creepy/fantastical short stories
-the true meaning of smekday by adam rex, a fun romp of an alien invasion novel from the perspective of a teenage girl
My number one rec is the book when you reach me by rebecca stead!! just a beautiful coming of age novel about friendship and love and also (unexpectedly) time travel. i havenโt reread most of the others in ages but I revisit this one every few years.
(Also possibly a controversial opinion, but if you never read twilight it might be worth it for the cultural experience lol)
I got him at a particularly difficult point in my life and Iโve had him for 6.5 years now wow!!! Heโs always been big, just much larger dimensions than a normal cat as well as being a little chubby lol. Heโs a sweetie pie and is finally coming around to his little sister ๐
