Okay I love any flower that is blousy or looks like a little person (see also: roses, bleeding hearts, fuschias) but peonies are so special. They have such a short season and they are so gorgeous when they suddenly erupt on the bush. The have beautiful spherical buds too. When they die they leave behind the weirdest alien looking seed pods! They are so romantic I love them

I am obsessed with this Art Deco Extraordinaire, a Polish-born painter whose glamorous figurative compositions came to life in 1920s-30s Paris. Influenced by Cubism and Neoclassicism, her worksāespecially her portraits of womenāblend beauty, strength, modernity, and a timeless cosmopolitan flair. After leaving Paris, she continued her career in New York, Hollywood, and Mexico, marking her as a truly international woman of her time. Stunning, just stunning!

Imagine trying to become a master painter in 1872 in New York and there's no high resolution images on google to study but there is a collection of European paintings at The Met so you go there to look at them and they actually let you set up an easel and make a copy for you to take back to your studio. This is how artists have been learning for centuries, by looking at art, painting stroke for stroke. This program is still running at The Met and you can apply! Itās so special, you enter through the education wing with your materials and tell the security guards that youāre in āThe Copyist Program,ā thereās a special room you store your work in progress. You have a 4ā x 4ā canvas tarp that you lay on the ground and for 4 hours once a week for 8 weeks thatās your special little island to work from. Then thereās the special thrill of carrying a wet painting through the museum halls. Very sacred, very special!Ā
