Have a full meal before hand. Being hungry and overstimulated is the worst combination in the world. Being hydrated would be even better but food is easy to measure and essential I think. Also grocery shopping while hungry is disasterous. Make sure your list is in order of the aisles. Or at least the sections. This makes it so much easier because you don't have to scan your list in crowded areas. You just have to grab the items in their predetermined order. Also you're probably trying to do one big run to avoid having to go again and again which is respectable. But if you can talk yourself into it, a few smaller runs are much easier to get through in my opinion. I live near a grocery store rn and I go to get the ingredients or snacks that I need as I need them. I pick up 5-10 things and I'm in and out. The added bonus to this is that I can use a hand basket instead of a cart. I can slip around and past people. It's so freeing. If it's possible to go to a different grocery store, it might be worth seeing if the vibes are better elsewhere. Opposite to @BEE1000's rec, I'm also not a morning person. But I often go later at night. It's much quieter. Noise canceling earbuds.

All reasonable. Made a game plan to see how a lil trip today and Wednesday goes. Maybe even consider what I don't need to see to buy and order those online. Pick up and delivery Id do more often, but I'm on a kind of specific diet for health reasons and their substitution policy doesn't go well. Thank y'all for the thought!

I’ve decided I want to be better about running by the store when I only need a couple things. I am way more likely to eat whole and fresh foods and am less likely to impulse eat out or binge snacks lurking in my pantry. I use the excuse of needing to go a big grocery shop when I eat out or binge eat my leftover snacks. Plus, running into the story for a few items takes no time and hardly any energy. Going to transition to this for March!

I love going to the grocery store with friends. We can chat while we shop, and it feels less overwhelming. There are the days where it’s a whole trip and we get coffee and lunch and people watch, but there’s also the times after work where a friend will stop by and we will both need things from the store, so we just both go and get the few things we need and then go home. Maybe 20 minutes of time hanging out but feels very worthwhile.

Always go on a full stomach. And also go on the “off-hours”—like late weekday nights instead of Saturday. [this way you won’t get overstimulated] 🫂

It's so lawless. You’ll see the weirdest things and no one will care. People are so unabashedly human here. Dead expressions, exhaustion, boredom. You’ll get a coffee, someone else will get a bloody mary, the time is irrelevant. Your priorities will be tested, everything costs at least three times as much as it should, it won’t matter. I love liminal spaces.
