of course, don’t actually watch this expecting a good time. I wasn’t expecting art or anything but if you want to see how much nothing $215 million will buy you, this is the way to go.

the movie is so big and dumb and American that I can’t help but love it. an americanized godzilla takes over NYC with three people from the cast of the simpsons. the soundtrack is so 90s in a mix of good and bad ways. ben folds, green day, wallflowers, rage against the machine, and puff daddy lmao. i wasn’t a huge ben folds fan but “air” is really good.
i may be very biased on this because as a kid the monster really appealed to me… this movie is actually really stupid, the soundtrack is no one’s best work, and the ending is awful but the chubby candy addicted mayor is so funny and they really don’t make em like this anymore, not even big dumb movies.
thinking about it, i really appreciate how many awful movies my parents sat through for me.

This movie was SO IMPRESSIVE! Claymation is always stunning. The fact that it took over 20 years to make is insane. I loved every second of it and admired it so much. HOWEVER. Never has a movie left me feeling so existential and scared and upset. Which is absolutely the point of the movie but I couldn’t do it again no matter how bad I wanted to
