This is a song that perennially becomes timely every time the fear mongers raise their "WAR CRY". Here we are again, bombing a foreign nation for no good reason and what that nation does in reply -sink the Nimitz air craft carrier? close the Strait of Hormuz? - could propel this thing into full-blown war. In the event, the war pigs will be hungry for you, Gen Z... "IT'S TIME TO ENLIST!".... but I think you will know better, I hope, and won't put up with this shit when "THE DEMAND IS A SACRIFICE!" ... No, you will make the Boomer antiwar protests look like a Sunday social, the Weathermen look like Denis the Menace. I'm already impressed at how you rose against the Gaza genocide. Personally, coming of age when this song came out, I did worry about being drafted to fight and die for another 'no good reason,' but in fact we early Gen Xers had lucked out, being of the recruit age when the USA was in somewhat of a lull of its characteristic militarism - between Vietnam and the Gulf wars. So far, you're good, no draft yet (though many do end up enlisting when there are few other options). But all it will take is a big "Thing" that "cannot go unanswered!" - a 9/11 or Pearl Harbor kind of thing, and given that I think you guys will be much less susceptible to the propaganda than previous generations were, the "all volunteer army" will not do, and it will become necessary for the pigs to reinstate the 'selective service' - the draft. So look out....

a rather disastrous version of the song - they were falling down drunk when they played Newport KY; but for archival purposes, here goes... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RwWFk3RGPs

A lil alternative for the apocalypse (plus it reminds me of hit 2008 DCOM Minutemen for some reason)

Cincinnati's best kept secret, and best band (with a shout-out to Fruit LoOops, a very close runner up) -but Lashes packs so much power into such a small package (drum and base/vocals duo). Link has some tracks, though seeing them live, for the rare times they play out, is a must.

...passed away this week... R.I.P. He was a fixture of the Cincinnati underground music scene for decades. More famous for the record, Wild Angels, produced by his friend Lou Reed, and infamous for its S&M chic album cover (see link).... I guess I'll never know if he was putting me on when he told me the name of the band he was in w/ Lou Reed, pre-Velvet Underground.... In any case, I couldn't repeat it.
