When I am being the best to myself (and therefore being intellectually curious), I keep a note on my phone updated with words I run into that are new to me, along with a definition that I reword myself in order to facilitate memorization.
Finding a good way to do this while reading that does not involve opening up the Pandora's Box of a smartphone, however...
