This song always reminds me of the first time I visited Chicago. Specifically a moment when I was wearing my favorite dark orange lace tank top and denim shorts, waiting on the train underground, feeling very alive and very present. I remember this exact moment with this song playing in my ears through white wire earbuds as the train whooshed by, sending a jolting breeze. It was summer of 2017. I had just started traveling the US. I backpacked to Chicago with my little brother via Megabus. Little did I know I would move here years later… when I lose sight of the magical feeling Chicago once gave me, I like to put this on and remind myself of that magic that gripped me all those years ago. Reminding myself I can tap into it. Reminding myself of my independence too, I think.

this year was filled with a lot of making it up as i went along and reminding myself that i do, in fact, have plenty of time. i was figuring out where, who, or what felt right and what to do and how to do it etc, etc, and this song was just a calming anthem to return to. i also have fond memories of listening to it (maybe a little too much) during the summer, and i really miss those sweaty firefly filled nights. this was one of the first summers i’ve ever missed; i usually despise the heat. so, i feel like that stands for something.

I remember listening to this a lot during my senior year of college with my big winter jacket & boots on, walking around campus.
It made me feel like I was in a weird mystery coming of age movie. Weirdly nostalgic now. I wish I could listen to this album for the first time again. <3

Been on a TV On The Radio kick since I discovered their Tiny Desk a few days ago.
Fun story:
When I was 18, I flew out to Chicago with my dad for the day to take a tour of Columbia. We rode the L on the way into the city from the airport (orange line from Midway), and I was listening to TOTR. A young man in a suit caught my eye because he was really into his music.
We take the tour and head straight back to the airport. No idea why we didn’t make a weekend of it. Again, I’m listening to TOTR. Again, I see the same young man. I knew this is where I’d be moving to. That was 2007, and I’m still here baby!!

one of the most resilient, beautiful, wacky, mysterious, romantic, haunting, adventurous, amazing cities in the whole damn country. the culture is so vibrant. also some of the kindest people ever down there. southern hospitality abounds! I’ve been having a love affair with that place for years

Took myself out for a burger after a nearly two hour walk to clear my head last night. A smashburger to be exact. With a cornmeal bun. With cornmeal dusted on top. Which was shockingly delightful
