money can’t buy taste, but it can apparently buy press coverage for your fiancée (now wife) in almost every major magazine and news outlet however, maybe the famine of beauty amongst today’s tech billionaires will lead some people on social media to get a hobby other than trying to look rich, maybe they’ll even develop class consciousness while they’re at it photo courtesy of Jerry Saltz, art critic at New York Magazine

I was thinking about this a lot yesterday… this has to be the most ghoulish and repulsive celebrity event that’s been in the media in recent memory

the weirdest thing about that bizarre spectacle isn't even the worrying lack of style, it's that insane guest list. money can't buy taste, and it seems it can't buy friends either.

@USERGENERATEDCONTENT she has final say over all editorial content, there’s no way she didn’t approve this. she also put Melania on the cover in 2005 during her marriage to Donald Trump, this is nothing new for her unfortunately

@MARXINISTA I hate how half of it is now just sponsored articles, hopefully whoever takes Anna Wintour’s place isn’t a bootlicker to whatever billionaires and celebrities make the magazine feel fractionally more “relevant” in the moment because it is strong cultural criticism and a distinct voice that makes a magazine, not who they put on the cover, and unfortunately I’ve always thought Ms. Wintour didn’t quite grasp that

you’re an instant celebrity, everybody wants to take pictures with/of you, randos dapping you up on the street, some guy I’ve never met just paid for our meal at Peppermill. And you get to soft-launch the feeling of being newlyweds.

this summer, we’re starting yoga, we’re learning a new language (being bilingual is now the standard, you need to know at least three to be truly chic), we’re going to concerts just because the tickets were cheap, we’re going to museums (especially the weird ones), hitting up the local library to ask for new recommendations, whether it’s a surprise or based on past tastes, we’re painting, collecting and collaging, sewing and embroidering our clothes, re-learning the harmonica, playing chess with strangers online and at the café, we’re taking up tennis and pretending it’s not just because of challengers. the only way to find what brings you joy is to try.

the guy at the store should know you, the man running the halal truck should know your order, your barista should know your name and you should know theirs, you should have a borderline flirtatious banter going with a bartender at your favorite dive bar
