A delightful little book about a little girl spending her summer on a Finnish island with her grandmother in the aftermath of her mother’s death. Really profound, easy to read book about death, love, family nature, and the beauty of being alive despite the horrors told from a six-year old‘s perspective. I’ve really never read anything else like it and think about it all the time. Bonus: the author, Tove Jansson, also created Moomins!

it’s my favourite book ever. i read it every summer and have a look at my favourite paragraphs from time and time and it never fails to get to me. it’s written in second person. it’s short, sharp and sweet. it’s really lyrical and beautifully investigates love, South London and the complexities of being Black.

“They do not appear misplaced among summer’s happy people” Loneliness, powerful, intentional language, and quiet. Fantastic read ❤️

someone snapped this at a recent show. love it because I look old as hell and I’m grateful to have been around with good friends and hobbies this long.

(minor spoilers, I guess?) a few long take bangers in this film, but the battle scene near the end is so goddamn good. follow Clive Owen and the pregnant young woman in his care as they get caught in a skirmish between two warring factions. Cuarón is the best.
