follow up is appropriate

speaking from experience, it’s totally fine to follow up even after a bit of time has passed. especially if you both communicated about going out again in the future, it’s reasonable to expect a confirmation or some accountability if their interest has changed for whatever reason. that being said, if lack of consistency becomes a pattern after reaching out or even after meeting up again, this indicates a deeper issue on the other person, and you’d probably be better off spending your time and energy on someone who will meet your need for communication and be reliable. you arent wrong for having the instinct to check back on plans that were made, even if tentative.

saying "so.... any life updates!?" every time you see someone you're friendly with

it's a pretty smooth / easy conversation starter without being too serious and can be cheeky or cute depending on the delivery said it to a guy last week and he's like "i just saw you less than a week ago? are you implying that i've quit my corporate job since the last time we spoke"

I recently learned that Sade is *actually* a band. But Sade is also the name of the lead singer, who also appears on all of the album covers. So, I think it’s understandable that some people may be under the impression that Sade (the band) is a solo act. Yacht rock is smooth. Sade is smooth.

Asking acquaintances what they’re All about

There’s this person who I only see at shows and we literally only ever talk about movies. Last night I asked them point-blank, straight up, “so what else are you passionate about”, only to discover that they’re also an archery instructor. I would have never guessed. People are so cool.
