you’ve got a good list! i really like bunny. jen beagin’s novels are so good and all fit this description! and i might add sweetbitter by stephanie danler? the ones you mention have visceral settings and this novel is about a girl working in an intense restaurant in nyc. oh and milk fed by melissa broder also has a sort of heady intense almost surreal feel like bunny!

One of my fave sapphic novels I’ve read as of late! The writing is crisp and clear, and I felt immersed in this morally gray world.

🐇 This book reminded me of the incredible ways writers play with and manipulate words. There were times I was brought to a stop by the way a sentence or two had unfolded. Mesmerizing, deliberate character development too. Highly rec! others I read last week: - the seep by chana porter - two books from the throne of glass series by sarah j. maas - jazz by toni morrison

bonus points if it’s cowritten by her sister mariko tamaki (POWER SIBLING DUO WHAT??) she does a lot of my favourite genre that i like to call “diary of a sad and weird teenage girl”!! my favs are: ✶ super mutant magic academy - mostly one page episodical skits (?) until the end BUT it’s awesome and fun and its my favourite graphic novel ever ✶ skim - very much diary of a depressed teenage girl (who is into wicca) ✶ this one summer - no spoilers but heavy on the coming of age and learning internalised misogyny ✶ laura dean keeps breaking up with me - exactly what it sounds like (also not by jillian tamaki but written by mariko tamaki) [honourable mention: SNOTGIRL!! by bryan lee o’malley and leslie hung. ongoing series and ITS GORGEOUS!!!!]

go to your local library‘s website or download the app. then search for a book you really want to read. then put it on hold. it feels like online shopping but it’s free. in a few days or weeks you'll get a cute text message or email that your book is ready to pick up and you’ll get to say hello to your local librarians and procure a new (to you) book which also feels like free shopping. the most functional part of our government ily public libraries

i usually find myself in reading ruts when i’m taking classes and being assigned books or when i’m trying to keep up with new releases and the “smart” books that are usually dense and long. i can usually get myself out of this rut by picking out a book that looks fun to me, like a book set on a beach or something I loved in middle school. I’m reading From The Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler right now and it’s just FUN!!! I also am very much not someone who feels like they have to finish a book. Life is too short. I think that helps!
