pls dont be turned off by the corny concept. the bands and djs are actually rly good and the programming is pretty diverse! this year i’ve danced to salsa, cumbia, house, funk, and more tba.. the only con is the sets are usually no more than an hour… but it’s all free!!! perfect place to warm up for a night out
i recommend: -los mirlos (peruvian psych cumbia, 7/10)

-toño rosario (merengue, 7/30)

Beer and dance at lincoln center

Idk why but after the ballet at Lincoln Center they were giving out free beer and put on a DJ so people could dance ! Seeing all these middle aged people in their fancy dress get down made me SO happy !!! check in advance if this is being offered or be pleasantly surprised

Bar lunatico in bed-stuy

- amazing talented musicians perform live every evening - delicious and innovative cocktails (second only to Angel's Share in NYC cocktails imo, if i had to rate the whole menu I might even give Lunatico a higher score) - rotating dessert menu. the chefs have fun with the ingredients - no cover, suggested donation all goes to the performers - cute decor, cute crowd, lovely neighborhood vibes - i usually drop by before the first act of the night, when the dinner crowd is leaving; but if there is something that looks good to you on the current dinner menu, most likely you won't be disappointed

Small dance floor so not gonna recommend it on a weekend but sound/vibe will be legit for actual dancing. Also in NYC the real dancers — for house at least — tend to follow particular DJs (in the Paradise Garage and Club Shelter traditions) but I am personally out of the loop so you'd best ask the rug cutters in question when you spot them in the wild. Also look into Friends and Lovers in Crown Heights — another spot run by old-school heads.
