Sometimes I want a fun drink in nice stemware without the headache. Therefore, I’ve become a bit of a non-alcoholic wine connoisseur. Am I overpaying for fancy juice and tea? Yes! Am I going to keep doing exactly that? Absolutely!

I’m 35 but my drinking habits are 87. Dare I say I have….wine fatigue? I’m sure that will change in a few hours, but sometimes I feel like I can’t drink another glass of “pet nat.” I love sherry, I love vermouth, I love white wine on ice, complete with cocktail onions just like my Grandma Prue used to drink. For vermouth, there are a lot of interesting small brands out there doing cool stuff with it, but I love this one from Partida Creus the most (anything they make is wonderful). I like it in a small glass with a large ice cube, topped with a lil soda water. For wines, I wouldn’t disrespect anything too expensive with an ice cube, but I do love a basic, straightforward white wine that could be described as “easy drinking” with “light acidity.” The cocktail onion makes it, trust me (and my grandma).

I’m not a sommelier; chances are you aren’t either. I’m convinced you can experience the entire scope of wine varieties and flavors for under $30 a pop. It helps to make friends with your local wine shopkeepers for a nice discount (looking at you Psychic Wines). This logic does not apply to magnums purchased for extravagant celebrations- go buck wild with those.

I am in a sobriety process and I tried for the first time not to drink during a supper with friends. I bought tulips instead of a bottle of wine and my host was so happy! I drank mineral water in a champagne glass and it was just as satisfying. Plus, it’s very classy to bring flowers. I recommend it to everyone, sober or not.

I love being around my friends, but I don’t always have anything to say or anything I’d like to do together. Nothing makes me happier than a house full of friends where all of us do our separate activities in silence at the same time. Perfect way to connect and feel love, while still focusing on my interests or goals for the day.

Some of the best, most energy-filled conversations I’ve had have been with strangers at the grocery store, while in traffic, and even on customer service lines. Talk to store clerks about their weekend plans, ask the person next to you at the meat counter what they’re making for dinner, see people and be seen. It’s beautiful!!!!!!!!

The best part about being alive is learning new things. You’re never too old to try that thing you’ve always wanted to. Having hobbies has helped me become more confident overall and make new friends. I recently started taking piano lessons, it’s quite the challenge, but so exhilarating.
