i know it’s become a serious concern / total joke but if you really get into it, it’s so wild. can’t believe no one has mentioned it. some of the ‘supporting evidence’ is suspiciously interesting, but it would really undo everything if true and isn’t personally provable. i flirt with conspiracy theories heavily and am entertained by them but Flat Earth remains the wildest.
here are some other faves:
multi-verse / parallel universes / Mandela effect, jesus was a mushroom, past life regression therapy discoveries (reincarnation), giants existing, reptilians/ aliens, hollow moon, advanced ancient civilizations (current fave: look into younger-dryas, 500+ cultural folktales / myths about the worldwide flood, and derinkuyu caves, gobekli tepi… lots of docuseries about this concept that advanced civilizations existed before a cataclysm and that archeologists societies are hiding and denying evidence)

my archaeology prof has talked about it in class, mostly because it reinforces very colonial ideas that certain populations could not have built these massive structures because they ‘weren’t advanced enough’ in the eyes of white europeans. graham hancock is part of a group of pseudoarchaeologists known as ‘new agers’ who believe that there was a lost civilization that was incredibly advanced, and he (and other new age believers) have a nasty habit of ignoring certain evidence and only investigating things that support their viewpoint. this isn’t a new thing, many archaeologists and anthropologists have experienced these people for many years (there’s a great new yorker article that i’ve linked about the sphinx that talks about them), but it’s dangerous to fully believe what people like that say. it’s not based on all the facts and sometimes pushes very anti-indigenous viewpoints.

I'm going through a bunch of early colonial artworks right now and it's so wild to see how much more we know compared to a few hundred years ago where Europeans were just starting to categorise things around them.
But there's still much unknown to us (I guess us in this sense being Western scientific paradigm) and still so much research that can be done and things to be found on earth, just felt wild that we're in this period where it feels like everything has been discovered when that's not true!!

It's for my dnd campaign lol but now I can't stop learning about ancient civilizations and how those cultures would've evolved without colonial interferences (More specifically Mayan Futurism) Seriously though getting sucked into random subjects and choosing to jump into the rabbit hole is a special experience
