How beautiful and confusing the world is through the eyes of an 11 year-old. Pretty gay and very tender. A movie to melt your warm Saturday afternoon away.
i find myself thinking about this one so often. this movie captures childhood more accurately than most, in my opinion. it’s slower, sure, but it’s so rich with characters and sounds and sunlight pouring over every scene of the agony of being a preteen and the complexity of being someone’s kid. highly recommend
An amazing movie that is a little bit over 3 hours long (something I wish I had known when I went to watch it alone at Metrograph on a Sunday night). The scenes are beautiful and above all of that, a really meaningful movie. It’s an epic story about a young boy in Taiwan set in the early 1960s. I replay the scenes in my mind constantly and it’s become something that I’m constantly reflecting on about how to tell a violent story, beautifully.
