this movie is amazing. i love how they kept the original dialogue of the play and used it in the movies but still modernized the setting and characters. a lot of movies make romeo and juliet bland and boring but this one is vibrant, with fun wardrobes, religious iconography everywhere, and this movie feels so saturated. leonardo dicaprio is charming as always in this movie and he plays an amazing romeo to pair with precious juliet. i absolutely love the person who plays mercutio, they did an AMAZING job.
the problem with all the other romeo and juliet movies is that they always take themselves too seriously but you have to remember, this was meant for stage theatre and shakespeare was a playwright who loved to be humorous. all of that gets lost in every single other romeo and juliet movie except this one. it’s so fun, i highly recommend.
CAUTION: tears might be shed.

is it good? kinda. my sister showed me this movie during the pandemic. i feel like it marks both me becoming more of a person and me and my sister becoming closer. me and my sister loved this movie so much we went as juliet and tybalt at the party for Halloween but everyone just thought we were and angel and devil. Harold Perrineau as mercutio was amazing 10/10 i dont think they could have gotten someone better if they tried. also paul rudd is in this movie and i always forget about that

i’ve been humming this song and thinking about it all day for some reason. it’s about her traveling the world, going to all these different countries, but still missing home. while joni isn’t a native californian (she’s canadian) i hear her love and longing for it in this song. her voice is just so delicate yet so powerful at the same and when she hits those runs with the high notes it tickles my brain. i don’t know how she does it man. the lyrics are great as well too, one of the best songwriters to ever live.
this song makes me love my home even more than i already do. even when i lived in texas for a few years i would wish a tornado would come and tear down the trailer park i lived in during tornado season in the summer, literally kneeling on the ground inside of the neighborhood shelter with my palms together, eyes closed, praying to god to let mother nature do its thing so i could go back home to california.
obviously, joni and i were in 2 very different situations…

this is one of my favorite coming of age movies. has elle fanning in it and i always love anything with her in it. i feel like this movie should get more recognition than it does. super good soundtrack too, including bad brains and the talking heads.

this is one of my favorite songs by françoise hardy. if you don’t know who she is she was a french musician from the 60s & 70s. bob dylan even refused to play a show if he didn’t meet her first before performing, even said she was his ideal woman.
this isn’t my favorite album but this is my favorite song besides the classic “le temps de l’amour” that’s beloved by anyone who’s ever watched a wes anderson movie.
check françoise hardy out if you’re interested in hearing some 60s french pop/folk!!
