Mixed on this one. I kinda loved the meandering nothingness of the middle. Really felt like summer. Lost the original detective plot but I wasn’t expecting much from a little kid anyways. I really wished the guy who died stayed dead though. That bit at the end rly undermined the climax I thought. Part with the brothers in the car was super intense though I loved that scene
@GRAPE it’s def not for everyone (my friend who gifted it to me said she thought it was too slow despite loving other Donna tartt books) and I’m prob a little biased by also being from Mississippi. Harriet is Such a good character and I love when authors present kids/tweens as complex, full, and real people who are just trying to figure stuff out.
