I've been obsessed with a specific sound coming out of the Boston music scene (and around MA) for a while now. I'm not talking about anything like Aerosmith or The Cars, but a messy, more lethargic, raw sound that I can't quite put my finger on. It's been around for a while and takes on a new form every decade, but it's existed in bands like Dinosaur Jr., The Magnetic Fields, The Lemonheads, Galaxie 500, Pile, Have Heart, Piebald, and Orchid, to name a few. I can't describe it well, but it's still around in the local scene. Makes me feel like you can dive into any city's music history and find something distinct that carries into today.
