my favorite film series of all time… truly a beautiful set of three movies that take a snapshot into celine and jesse’s relationship throughout time. it’s so raw and real and the dialogue is impeccable. richard linklater slays as do celine and jesse :) !! i attached my criterion collection set of the films on this post as well! def some of my favorite relics i own. iā€˜ll end this post with one of the quotes from the film i love the most. i hope it can inspire you to watch it :-)
ā€œI believe if there's any kind of God it wouldn't be in any of us, not you or me but just this little space in between. If there's any kind of magic in this world it must be in the attempt of understanding someone sharing something. I know, it's almost impossible to succeed but who cares really? The answer must be in the attempt.ā€

There are probably a lot of avid filmers on this site, but if you haven't seen it, rent Before Sunrise. It's beautiful and perfect on it's own but never has a sequel (Before Sunset) landed such an ending emotional punch.

Two very different styles and feelings but I always find myself coming back to these again and again.
The Princess Diaries - These movies were childhood favorites. I remember every time I would watch these I would always think ā€œwow I wish I had a family somewhere that would take me far far away from farmland Iowa and tell me I actually am the princess I knew myself to be, and teach me how to be oneā€ Unfortunately this never happened so my only escape was with princess Mia, right alongside her for princess lessons and grand makeovers with broken hairbrushes and bushy eyebrows. There was some part of little me that was content with this knowing I wouldn't be getting much more any time soon, and for that reason these movies still hold such a special place in my heart
The Before Trilogy - Documenting the chance encounter of two strangers meeting on a train in europe. The three films take you on the journey of their story. from first meeting, to reconnection, to a very realistic look at what love might look like for two very complicated adults with very complicated lives. The long and masterfully done one-shot, dialogue heavy scenes make you feel like you’re on a walk with the couple, exploring twisting streets and sticky conversations. These films are pure artistry and were my first introduction to real cinema and real heartache. (the main characters also meet on my birthday so how could I not love it?)

I’m always keeping my thoughts on the few films I choose to write about solely within the pages of my notes up, so I figured what the heck! Maybe someone out there might like the two cents I want to spend on talking about a film that moved me :] Spoilers, ofc!!!
Ā (2/2/25) Absolutely beautiful film. Watched it with katlafo, and we were both sobbing messes by the end. Throughout the beginning, I spent so much time trying to analyze the film, thinking I HAD to figure out the underlying message of a film I’d heard so much about before I’d even truly experienced it for myself. Man.
The scene where Greg shows Rachel her film was so beautiful. Again, I tried to pin point what it all meant in the moment—the constant cuts to Greg and Rachel’s pained expressions, the long shots of seemingly symbolic stop-motion—but I realized that that was exactly what was keeping me from what I longed for. So I sat there, and felt. And cried, and cried. Later, the scene where Greg chooses to go to Rachel’s room, allowing himself to simply exist in the silence, taking in the remnants of her life, it was all so beautiful; the tears just wouldn’t stop, haha.
While I didn’t leave this film with some life changing message I was subconsciously searching for, I feel this movie reminds me to love myself the way I do others; and to do things because they matter to ME, because I care about them.
While I want to say I’ll never trust anything that tells me someone or something won’t die at the end, I know that’s not true.
