while discussing current linguistic trends in a small group we were talking with an older zoomer and someone around my age and how some words become ā€œtrendyā€ (this is where some red flags starting going off in my head), and how some people use slay to seem ā€œin touchā€ and just comes off as off putting. the person near my age then said that words like ā€œslayā€ and ā€œperiodā€ were, essentially, trends two years ago. here’s where my sleeper agent was activated. what i would have said was how we (we were all white in the discussion) tend to appropriate and steal words as they are pushed into algorithms and become colloquial speach without acknowledging their sources (which 90% of the time is from queer poc, especially from the ballroom and drag scene). i forgot i’m one of few who actually knows this and tries to subvert my usage of said language for words that aren’t bastardized and stolen from other cultures even though i may be queer myself, that doesn’t give me or others a pass to use words that can sound unintentionally stolen, misused, or worse. just wanted to say that — sorry for not really reaching a ā€œpointā€ with this it’s just a very special cross-interest of mine with linguistics, semantics, and drag/ballroom culture with which i am all interested in :p

People have responded with some meme phrases so I feel emboldened to say this. It sends me flying into a rage every time which is quite often.
I hate the way people just take on and parrot words and phrases like this it’s kind of disturbing. I find myself doing it too and I’ve been trying to cut down on my use of such lexicon as of late but it’s going to take time to eradicate them completely. viral is such a sinister way to describe the spread of information and ideas online… when u think about it…

you should not be able to give a song a "score" per-say I mean in certain cases yea but it just stigmatizes music from being listened to because one critic just didn't like it! i think there should be a sort of sticker system: - gold star if you loved it - garfield sticker if it was nice - thumbs up if it was good - encouraging "keep trying!" sticker if it was meh - sad face if you didn't like it - you decide the sticker if you hated it

i open it, wait for it to load (delayed gratification), swipe the top refs, like them, check out the accounts their from, might follow, see what the people i follow are posting, search up new music or something random (all on my own accord, no algorithm, no doomscrolling) find something actually cool that i bookmark/add to a list to check out (which i do check out), either leave the app satisfied or make a silly little post and then leave the app with no urge to keep scrolling or looking, happy with my time spent
