2025 is the year for Meloheads and Romiheads, as it's the anniversary of 50 years and 20 years of the characters respectively.
The new Netflix stop motion animation is a return to form to their original dynamics when Kuromi was first introduced in Onegai My Melody, and for me it's a home run.
Rei Sakuma and Junko Takeuchi return as the voices to My Melody and Kuromi and they give them such character, they play them so dumb and clueless, that you can't help but be charmed. Besides, it enhances the slap stick style of comedy of the show
But of course the highlight is the animation. The stop motion is beautiful, the combination of the felt and a few other materials create such a distinct visual aspect and they don't shy away from embracing these materials from cotton clouds to collage dream sequences.
The story felt a bit messy at times, but overall it holds itself. It follows a little bit of the trend of past big IP Netflix stop motions such as Rilakkuma and Kaoru and Pokemon Concierge with themes about taking things at your own pace and finding what you desire, but with a twist that fits the characters and the magical world of Mariland.

i recently came across this show while researching some quotes for a close friend's birthday card. she's a huge vampire weekend fan, so i was doing a deep deep dive into ezra koenig and stumbled upon this show from 2018 that was apparently widely criticized at the time (save for a small but loyal fanbase), and never made it past the first season (plus a holiday special). the song that i ended up finding for her birthday card was from the show [friend like u] and, after listening to it, decided i had to watch the show.
and MY GOD. the show was so ahead of its time. it is hilarious and the world building is genuinely interesting - i ended the season wanting to know more about the rules of this world, its history, and genuinely wishing that there was more to watch. the last episode set it up for a whole run of seasons that we sadly never get to see. not to mention a suprisingly star-studded cast - jaden smith does do an ... interesting job voice acting, but imo it just adds to the charm. i am so disappointed that the show originally fell on unappreciative ears :( it would do NUMBERS had it been released more recently.
anyway TLDR, if you're looking for a fun and silly anime that will suck you in and give you a great time for a day or two, neo yokio is the one for you.

this is a perfect lgbtq+ love story its beautifully animated the soundtrack is perfect it’s like a magical girl anime but not really bcs it mainly centers about innocent childhood love. the characters are honestly hilarious there’s LOTS of different innuendos this is a yuri but it doesn’t get very vulgar in any way ( not that there’s anything wrong with that ) ;3 but i highly recommend if you're into shojo / comedy couldn’t speak higher about an anime fr :3 ♡

🕵One of the things I like the most about Pi.fyi and the current scale of users is that it's still noticeable when a rec was inspired by another.
Sometimes the rec directly mentions the other, but other times you can kinda assume that reading an especific thing here triggered a memory or an ideia.
