More Perfect Union has been releasing great mini docs about the geographical, ecological and health impacts of digital industries, this one on a Bit coining mining facility and this other one on a XAI Data center (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VJT2JeDCyw) are both very well made works that address this current issue. Nowadays in pretty much unanimously understood the health concerns associated with living next to factories and big industries, most countries have regulations on where and how they can be installed, that does not mean that this is always enforced or that there isn't land occupations near to these facilites due to lack of affordable housing. However, there is very few debates on the environmental and health impacts of living next to big data centers that demand an absurd amount of power to run, which generates sound pollution, air pollution and others. Really recommend both of these videos because they not only interview specialists but also the people in the communities being affected.

damn i need to watch this. a few years ago, a massive meta data center was built a mile or so from my house, and it took out a whole lot of forest/farm land. you can literally hear a hum from all of the electricity it uses if you’re outside your car near it. they run it as if it’s some sort of military base. it’s insane.

I knew nothing about the workers movement when I first saw this documentary. But I felt an anger toward corporate power and exploitation suffered by the miners.

Hale County This Morning, This Evening — Definitely an acquired taste, but imo one of the best documentaries out there. Beautiful, slow, immersive. RaMell Ross took years worth of footage and curated a 76 minute work of art. Lots of discourse out there on it. HUGE rec.
Paris is Burning — basic rec but worth it if you’ve never seen. House/ballroom scene of the mid/late ‘80s NYC. I sob consistently every time.
Roger & Me — Love or hate Michael Moore, this doc is amazing. Covers US deindustrialization & the consequences for the midwest, specifically focusing on Flint, Michigan.
All That Breathes — Another breathtakingly beautiful doc. Follows two brothers in Delhi who run a bird hospital for injured black kites. Hindu nationalism, interspecies connection, ecological collapse. Nominated for an oscar. So good.

One of the things I like the most about Pi.fyi and the current scale of users is that it's still noticeable when a rec was inspired by another. Sometimes the rec directly mentions the other, but other times you can kinda assume that reading an especific thing here triggered a memory or an ideia. It's very cute and interesting to notice the small influences interacting with other humans online can have.

I know there are days when you are so tired, or maybe you made a big meal for friends and family or you spent the afternoon meal prepping and now you have to clean like five pots and a tray, but be brave!!! (my inner monologue)
Don't force your future self to wake up to a bunch of dirty dishes. It will keep your mind full because you will be constantly reminding yourself to clean that up.
