My VERY COOL friend Paola who was so funny and did not give a fuck about anything: Shake It by Metro Station and DONTTRUSTME by 3OH!3 Gay kid named Martín who loved to make loud sexual noises in inappropriate situations and places and would sing kick off your stilettos and fuck me in the backseat, also very loudly: Fer Sure by The Medic Droid My ALSO VERY COOL best friend Aurora who had beautiful long curly black hair that went down to her waist and bangs that covered her eyes and everybody was afraid of her and she would physically attack anybody who messed with me: Crazy Bitch by Buckcherry My other best friend who had the same name as me and we played Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum in the school Alice in Wonderland musical: Face Down by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus My very not cool frenemy Melanie who once I buried her in sand dunes on a school field trip and walked away and left her there and actually it’s weird that she liked this song because she was very preppy but I guess she just wanted to fit in and be edgy too while also rebelling against her wealthy parents: A Little Piece of Heaven by Avenged Sevenfold My childhood best friend Iliana who I had a friend breakup with after I helped Melanie steal all of her neopoints (and insisted that I didn’t steal them because I didn’t keep the neopoints which is just worse actually), who after the breakup became a cheerleader and cornered me alone in the outdoor hotel pool one night on a school trip to Austin and serenaded me with this song: Halo by Beyoncé

@GRAPE in the damn sparkling white sand of the New Mexico desert!!!! But no somebody else dug her up and she was NAWT happy with me we were designated bus seat buddies for the ride back and it was awkward to say the least. but low-key she deserved it because she was a huge classist snob and called my neigborhood ghetto 🫶

@GRAPE I later ended up making her cry in front of our website gym class because I called her sheltered and spoiled. I was definitely constantly doing evil things to people though it was often justified and I appeared to be very angelic LOL. but I was blowing off steam from things I was dealing with at home and directing all of the anger and helplessness I had towards safer targets

My dad teases me about how when I was a little kid, my favorite thing to do when I was on the landline phone with somebody—be it a relative or one of my best friends—was to breathlessly describe the things that were in my bedroom so that they could have a mental picture of everything I loved and chose to surround myself with, and where I sat at that moment in time. Perfectly Imperfect reminds me of that so thanks for always listening and for sharing with me too 💌
