Listening to music again should be mandatory. None of this I don't have time shit or I just wanna watch tv. THE TLC UNIVERSE CAN WAIT. I have a beabadoobee and mitski album to get through.
Starting this week I'm dedicating a day to music. New albums, old ones, recommendations, and LIVE ALBUMS. That's right I'm getting to the AudioTree records everyone hates. NOT because Heart to Gold put one out, wishing it was a full album; but because my favorite recording of Pinegrove's No Drugs is the stupid Skylight Sessions version AND their Amperland, NY version of Amulets/Light On might be one of the best songs I've ever heard in my entire fucking life...
Anyway, tell me what you're listening to. Make it good.
If you have a computer job, nothing passes the time like putting on an album. Throw something on, no skips, no complaining, just listening until its done and 45min-1hr has passed. I also like to set challenges for myself to not repeat stuff I am listening to. Last couple of months, Rate Your Music has been pretty valuable for finding stuff to listen to, like the highest rated Brazilian Pop albums and checking them out.
I have been logging a list of stuff I have been checking out here.
This is how music was meant to be listened to. I miss life before Spotify with my iPod that had my fav artistās discographies categorized by album all waiting to be consumed as a whole piece of art. Our attention spans are getting so badāan album requires time and patience and allows for a deeper satisfaction. Try listening to one whole album a week! Itās great.
see a toad, a leopard frog, a crawfish, a small mouth bass, a cricket. see the moonlight. feel the wind. smell the river flowing.
night time nature is perfection and you should experience it this summer.
i like to get lost. it forces me to remember that i donāt need a gps to go 5 blocks to that one restaurant. i bike till i feel ālostā and then bike a little bit more and take a different direction home. i find new parks, new hobby shops, that one weird art installation, graffiti i havenāt seen before, and cool plants everywhere. it reminds me i need to just chill out at take in my surroundings more. disclaimer: i usually do this when i cant sleep and i have a lot of worry in my brain. it helps me leave my phone, distress and connect with my body/space more.
knowing i can hop on my bike and explore the beautiful city i live in free of stress, listening to heart to gold and in search of my next sweet treat. #msp
