my grandma used this phrase when i asked her about her high school friends. ”ahh yeah. those two used to go together,” she said. and what a sweet sentiment that is. those two “go together” like yellow goes with violet. a perfect little way to describe a fitting match.
Intergenerational friendships are usually hard to come by but I think they teach us so much. I’m really so grateful to have an 87 year old best friend! The love and understanding I have from her!! I love to pick her brain on all things (( one of her drawings from a figure drawing class we took together last month))
They’re in their 80s and they’ve been together since they were 15 and 16.
My grandmother described running into my grandfathers arms at the train station, when he’d have weekends off in the raf, as heavenly and I have to deal with men in their 20s who still use Snapchat and repost tiktoks about “fine shyt” and “bops”.
There is no quality of life in yearning for a time you didn’t exist in but where do we draw the line.
even if shit continues to hit the fan, pretty much everyone ends up exactly where they’re supposed to be. you will find a place to live, a job, a lover, friends, etc. just keep going and it will be ok.
