Max Burkeman shares his love for Brooks Brothers boxer briefs

Max Burkeman is the New York City–based editor-in-chief of SAP Magazine. Since its inception in 2021, SAP has established itself as one of the coolest voices of the zeitgeist, consistently covering the latest and greatest underground creatives. The magazine has also sparked some sick events — from a show by untitled (halo) for the Issue 005 release, to a Jeffrey Deitch event featuring Gyeongsu’s U.S. debut performance for their most recent issue. Issue 006 is out now, with four distinct covers featuring Jerry Hsu, MIKE + Mark William Lewis, Amanda Ba, and Damsel Elysium. Rumor has it that Max also interviewed PI forever-favorite Chanel Beads for this issue… secure your copy here. Lucky for us, Max’s here to tell us what he’s been into.

I recently went to China for a wedding I was the best man at. I went to Hefei, Hangzhou, and ended in Shanghai. It was awesome. Great food, friendly people, cheap beer and insane cities. Hefei was my favorite. The Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou made me cry.

Simon B. is a YouTube channel that posts a personal collection of emo, rock, and hardcore. Mostly from the 90s but it can span. His taste is very good and his recordings are high quality. I’ve found many bands over the years from his channel.

I went to Build-A-Bear Workshop for the first time recently to get a wedding gift (the same wedding as China). I thought it was going to be uncomfortable going alone. It was an extremely inviting and pleasant experience. I got to pick out clothing, name, stuff, and make a voice recording for my bear. They make you kiss the heart of the bear in front of everyone in line which I didn't love.

Great for going down rabbit holes of music. You can find out what recording studio recorded a song, find the engineer of that recording studio, find that engineer's brothers who's in another band, find the guitarist of that band and they’ll be in an Australian electronic rock band from 1992 that rips. You might also find the worst song you've ever heard the same way.

Jejune is an emo band from Boston started in the mid 90s. Their recorded music is pretty good, but this live video of their song “That’s Why She Hates Me” is so packed with energy it's addicting. The recording sounds punchy as hell. I've heard the annoying ass intro on this video over a hundred times.

My mom buys me these underwear usually for my birthday or Christmas. They are expensive for sure, but they feel expensive. They don't get too saggy throughout the day. Your boys will be happy.

Emailing is a language and once I learned it, it became fun. It's where big business comes in and if you do something you enjoy, emails are a time of excitement and opportunity.

Steve reviews Military Meal, Ready-to-Eat (MRE) which are self-contained individual meals given to soldiers in war. He is maybe the most interesting guy on the internet. He makes his own music for his channel, he's ripped and handsome, and is very, very knowledgeable about the subject. His channel is great for the reviews, the history, and for Steve himself.
