New York City is where I was born and raised on the upper west side of Manhattan. New York is a very fast paced and chaotic city to live in and that’s something I can't live without. I don’t think I could ever see myself living in a rural area, where it’s quiet and boring. I need to be surrounded by hectic energy, but it is nice to get away from it sometimes.

i know it's cliche but i really love it here! i really need a job here and more friends and a lover but i am taking time to appreciate what i do have which is the opportunity to live in such an amazing city with so many things happening all the time everywhere. i was never really a new york or nowhere person (and i'm still not, go wherever you want) but there is really nowhere i'd rather be right now :D

I’m from the midwest, moved to manhattan for college, stayed for a bit after, have recently moved to a few different cities, and have wished to be back living in new york ever since. It’s often talked about like a thrilling dream— it’s obviously not. But what I can say is that I think in many ways living there helped me grow into a person I really understand. I was listening to a podcast recently where this comedian brittany carney said something like living in new york slaps her in the face every day but she likes that about it so she stays. I think that was a pretty accurate way to describe it. It took me a while to feel comfortable living there, but I still remember the moment I realized that it had become my home, and ever since no home I’ve made for myself has felt quite the same.

It was a big risk, but I was just laid off from a job I hated and had a fresh breakup on top of that. I had decent prospects as far as potential jobs go, but I wanted to stay in ā€œthe cityā€ and I felt like I hit a ceiling in San Francisco. Plus, I’d lived there nearly my entire life. Thus, I had a suspicion that if I couldn’t be happy in New York City, then I wouldn't be happy anywhere. That was a little over six years ago now and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. A LOT has happened here, and I’ve dealt with a ton of grief, but man, I love it here. I have a great job, made some real friends and community, and am living outwardly as my truest self. I’m sure I could’ve had this in SF if I tried, and I know that this lifestyle will change inevitably, but I love living in a place with an energy that emanates throughout the city.

Life is fucked, make the best of what you got of it. Life is too short to be stressing all the time over the smallest things. Make your dreams happen now before it’s too late and experience everything you can, even if you're lazy and tired. Force yourself to get up in the morning and tell yourself that you're going to have a great day and make this bread. You don’t want your life to pass you by knowing that you didn’t live it to the fullest. See your friends, be creative, and be yourself because within a blink of an eye you don’t know when your life will end.

This is one of my favorite albums in my library. Phantom Spire is a black metal artist from Albany, New York. His sound design and vocal style is very beautiful. The perfect amount of distortion and very melancholy, atmospheric beats.
