I can't fall asleep in a quiet room. I created a customized mix on this app that I lovingly titled Shut Up Mix. It includes the sounds of thunder, waterfalls, rain, a fireplace, and deep brown noise. This perfect blend of soothing sounds is like a calm hug as I drift into dreamland. This plus my silk sleep mask and I'm all set for a good night's rest.
For those who never feel fully rested in the morning:
Apparently, thereâs a lot of ways to breathe wrong and youâre doing them all while you sleep. Sometimes itâs because of you and other times itâs because of your environment or maybe itâs both but if youâre not getting enough air you will get low quality sleepâšď¸. If you wake up feeling congested, a couple of things that really help me are a humidifier (love this one for travel also) and an air purifier (super quiet). For those who have a hard time falling asleep:
- It feels like you either love melatonin or you hate it, I happen to love it. Finding your dosage is key tho and that might take some experimenting. I started too big and slept like a rock but felt super groggy waking up!! - this is annoying but going to bed at the same time every night is so helpful. Iâm sorry!! I want to be too cool for school also but having a strict bedtime will change your life for the better For brains that wonât shut off:
Ok here is my trick to falling asleep when my brain is too loud (patent pending):
Step one: play a podcast or anything where people are speaking but set the volume low enough that you canât quite hear what theyâre saying
Step two: make overthinking work in your favor by focusing on your train of thought and tuning out the podcast noise. I think this works because tuning out external sounds is something that happens naturally as you fall asleep. Ok hope that helps, sweet dreams! đ
- green noise. objectively better than any other noise. just knocks me out, plus gives you much deeper sleep. hereâs my favourite. - lectures on something youâre not even remotely interested in. for me itâs physics. - asmr ?? i dunno, i like it. - breathing fresh air. nothing like a bit of fresh air for a city person. weâre all oxygen deficient. - meditation. i love Medito (itâs on appstore and google play) meditations. not sleeping sucks, hope you get better soon!
I make photo albums of the polaroids I take of my friends, work, and travels. I love having a physical object that can bring back so many memories. Like many, reading the book The Artist's Way helped me find ways to connect to myself and my art. I adopted the practice of "Morning Pages" which is writing three pages in a journal stream of consciousness style to empty your mind of cluttered thoughts before you get into your day. This has helped my anxiety levels and enhanced my focus so much. I love reading them back after enough time has passed to reflect on what has worried me and remind myself that all things must pass.
There is no shame in choosing to end a pregnancy for any reason. I ended one of my own when I was 19 because I was not ready to have a child. It wasnât a big deal. I have never regretted my decision and feel so grateful to have received safe and affordable care. This level of healthcare should be available for anyone choosing to have an abortion. Donating to abortionfunds.org is a critical way to redistribute your funds if you find yourself lucky enough to have extra income.
One of the coping mechanisms that my therapist has given me is to radically change my body temperature when I feel overwhelmed. This could be a cold shower or a piping hot bath. I usually choose the bath. Taking the time out of my day to light a candle, smoke a joint, and remember to relax is my saving grace. I love spending this time with myself to decompress from a long day and find so much comfort in the solitude. It's my way of putting a Do Not Disturb sign on my life.
