Time and time again I’ve found amazing gems digging through this musical honey hole. Sure a cover might be tattered or an LP could have some surface noise but you can seriously build a world class collection alone from just Academy’s dollar bin. (Example finds, Ahmad Jamal - Jamal Plays Jamal (VG+), Sagittarius - Present Tense (Promo), Etta James - At Last (First Mono), Sylvia Striplin - You Can’t Turn Me Away 12”)

went to my local record store today and i got a copy of ray of light by madonna for 1.99, a copy of tragic kingdom by no doubt for 4.99 and as a belated bday gift my friend got me a used fancy criterion collection copy of frances ha. never really looked in those sections bc i was under the impression that i wouldn’t find anything i was interested in but there was a really cool selection of deals today

I’ve amassed a decent collection this way and most are only minorly scratched. I either judge by the cover or pick out composers I’m interested in. Listen to them in the morning while having breakfast and feel invigorated !

I generally don't spend $40+ on a vinyl, however I have a pretty extensive collection that I didn't spend much on individually. I think part of the fun of it is finding an album you love for a few bucks at an antique or thrift store (my best find was Marty Robbins' Gunfighter Ballads in a $1 bin at a local shop). sometimes you do see an album you love but it's wayyyyyy overpriced and you just have to walk away and hope that you can find it elsewhere. there are several elusive albums that I've been searching for for a few years now and for me, the hunt is part of the fun of collecting them. I don't get a new one all the time but if you know where to look you can have a pretty big collection after a few years. but if you want physical media without the inflated prices due to vinyl being more trendy at the moment, Id go for CD's
