This is not something I talk about but I haven’t had a full length mirror in my home for like three years. Well, there’s one in my sister's room that I use for emergencies / special occasions but I’ve really grown to love no full length mirror. It didn’t start out as a choice because it stemmed more from being kind of lazy and broke but now it feels more like a selfcare thing. It's funny since I love clothes and outfits. Obviously, since I own a store. But I spend so much time around mirrors at work that it’s nice to have a break when I'm home. I also think that when I get up in the morning without a full length mirror in my room I choose cute clothes that I like that feel fun and chill and comfortable on my body.

I am currently living in the second large period of time in my life where I just randomly do not have a full length mirror. I feel like it must improve self image/make you get dressed faster/make you dress more for YOU than for the external gaze. It’s unwieldy at first, but now I’m used to it. As always, still workshopping.

I wanted to develop my personal style more so I started taking pictures of every outfit I wore outside of the house (even the ones that I thought were bad/ugly). I made an album of my favourite outfits to scroll through when I need inspo from my own closet. This eventually helped me shop less because I could see what I already owned and enjoyed. From there I could see how certain pieces fit me and what pieces I really liked on myself. It also highlights what kinds of items are missing from my closet. Scrolling through also just helped me find something to wear that I would feel good in when I had a bad mental health day.

When I was a wee twiggy girl approximately aged 16-23 I would just buy whatever I could find at thrift stores that was especially weird or interesting and didn’t have to think about what it looked like because I could just slap things together and look cute and quirky. As I’ve aged I’ve developed a gourmand tendency towards indulgence and, consequently, a figure a little more like Marilyn Monroe (not in the way a lot of women say it—no offense and bless them for living their truth—I’m speaking objectively) so my focus is like purely on finding clothes that fit me structurally that have very particular shapes silhouettes and details. I’m also careful about finding clothes that fit within an autumnal color palette to suit my complexion. I generally won’t buy clothes if they’re not made of natural fibers and if I’m thrift shopping or on poshmark I keep an eye out for pieces from designers I love. I look for things that fit with my well loved staple items and only buy something if I really love it because I don’t like to have a lot of stuff anymore. I love lush textures and fabrics for winter like velvet and fur

I’m not good at describing tastes and am certainly not a foodie but I want to talk about the beverage TÖST because it’s important. Basically TÖST feels trés sophisticated. It doesn't have alcohol in it but it is still celebratory and special. Delightful, delicious and bubbly lol. It's not too sweet but also isn’t trying to mimic the taste of alcohol. it's doing its own thing. It comes in a beautiful bottle and is a great thing to bring to a dinner party, especially if I am at the dinner party. I think i discovered it when i was exploring my favorite overpriced supermarket in Fort Greene, greene grape (temporarily closed! 😔) but you can find it at whole foods i believe.

I’m addicted to Sudoku and have been for the past six months. My favorite thing is when the day is done and the TV is on and I'm working on a sudoku with my two cats next to me. Pure bliss. I don't like ordering things online and sudoku is actually really hard to find in stores. It's not at drug stores or regular bookshops like you'd expect. You can always find it at the airport or at like Iconic Magazines on mulberry st.

When I first saw sliding doors when I was 12 it blew my mind. It’s like my fight club. Actually better than fight club in my opinion because it’s for girls. It’s kind of like one of those early 2000s rom coms with an element of fantasy, but it’s way better than “what women want” or “shallow hal,” No offense to those movies. To me, sliding doors is about how we have zero clue what’s good for us. It makes me happy that I have so little control over my life. Things I may think I really want, like getting somewhere on time or holding onto a relationship, may be totally wrong.
