I am currently living in the second large period of time in my life where I just randomly do not have a full length mirror.
I feel like it must improve self image/make you get dressed faster/make you dress more for YOU than for the external gaze. It’s unwieldy at first, but now I’m used to it. As always, still workshopping.
This is not something I talk about but I haven’t had a full length mirror in my home for like three years. Well, there’s one in my sister's room that I use for emergencies / special occasions but I’ve really grown to love no full length mirror. It didn’t start out as a choice because it stemmed more from being kind of lazy and broke but now it feels more like a selfcare thing. It's funny since I love clothes and outfits. Obviously, since I own a store. But I spend so much time around mirrors at work that it’s nice to have a break when I'm home. I also think that when I get up in the morning without a full length mirror in my room I choose cute clothes that I like that feel fun and chill and comfortable on my body.
Setting aside time to play around in your closet and create outfits will save you time later and likely add to your style. Even more helpful if you take pics to catalogue. I’m just always rushing so the last thing I have time to do before I go somewhere is try on 15 different things and hating my outfit. The change of seasons always fucks me up too because I don’t know wtf to wear!
I wanted to develop my personal style more so I started taking pictures of every outfit I wore outside of the house (even the ones that I thought were bad/ugly). I made an album of my favourite outfits to scroll through when I need inspo from my own closet. This eventually helped me shop less because I could see what I already owned and enjoyed. From there I could see how certain pieces fit me and what pieces I really liked on myself. It also highlights what kinds of items are missing from my closet. Scrolling through also just helped me find something to wear that I would feel good in when I had a bad mental health day.
If you’re within an hour walk from home, you should just walk home.
I understand taking public transit or an Uber there to be on time, but you’re not rushing to get home. Thus, walk.
