When we had Brad Phillips on the newsletter I still hadn’t read this book. Shame on me. Essays and Fictions is an incredibly sincere collection of essays on addiction and trauma, that lands somewhere between fiction and autobiography. I was glued to it front to back. This book breathed new life into my reading habits and I’ve since read Bret Easton Ellis’ Less Than Zero and I’m halfway through Denis Johnson’s Jesus’ Son.

Not to directly call out PI staff writer @BRAD-PHILLIPS but I happen to be reading Essays and Fiction right now after lots of friends recommended it and its so fucking good. It's sad and strange and makes me laugh but also breaks my heart.

Everyone should read 'Essays and Fictions' by Brad Phillips at least once in their life. It's just so accurate to the experience of addiction in the most abstract ways.

I love photo books and have spent hundreds of hours staring at them since learning they existed at the bard college library about a decade ago. But I’m not sure I’ve ever been so emotionally affected by anyone else’s work. His new book “Failing“ completely floored me and his first book “A Period of Juvenile Prosperity” is almost as good too. Dark shit tho be prepared

tomorrow PI.FYI launches to the public this project is the result of thousands of hours spent coding everything from scratch after I got laid off six months ago no thiel-bucks or weirdo outsider money, just a pure desire to make something fun and true to Perfectly Imperfect’s day one goal of helping people find new things from real human beings, not algorithms or AI a pure labor of love that I’ve been quietly plotting for two years and it’s completely self-funded from my (rapidly) dwindling savings account so thank you for coming along for this weird ride 🫶 let's see where it goes
