im home for the holidays and they have officially williamsburged my shit town. its all warby Parker fast casual salad vintage store. the place used to have character. unassuming, sure, but god damnit what the hell is wrong with that. im glad there's at least some mass art trying to call out the repulsive aesthetics and politics of npc hipseterdom that is legit ruining this country. pls, someone, anyone, make it stop.
a strange little wordpress site chronicling all of the businesses that have closed in my hometown, but it could really be about anyone's hometown. call me crazy but scrolling the posts is always a weirdly emotional experience... it's the failed promise of the american dream laid bare, a time capsule of suburban decay. it makes me wonder what it means for one guy to spend 15 years religiously documenting these closures.
some of the photos are just unbelievable. the "need money now?" shadow cast on the wall of an empty payday loan store. the desiccated plant still in it's pot at the dry cleaners (a sign that reads "fresh as a flower" barely visible in the background). very heady stuff.
the best and easiest to access archive of free movies I've seen on the internet. this google drive folder has thousands of films and basically covers the entire history of tasteful, cool, and/or groundbreaking cinema. there are deep cuts like Abel Ferrara's debut feature - 9 Lives of a Wet Pussy (a porno from 1970) - and classics like Barry Lyndon. There's hundreds of random DVD extras, a bunch of licensed stock footage, curated collections in folders like "Male Manipulators" and definitely a lot of stuff I haven't figured out yet. It's kind of an unorganized shit show in there but you gotta dig through dirt to find gold, so just shut up and grab ur shovel. I wish I found this when I was a teenager because it would have changed my life.
