makes u appreciate it 100x more and look for little moments of sweetness. reminds u that the city is alive and you are part of that aliveness - your actions and attitudes make the city. helps u to look at even the frustrating parts with soft eyes

this is something i should do much more of. every time i visit another city i scope out the best spots, hit all the sights, and pack in my days with fresh experiences. once u live somewhere for a while u just kinda stop being excited and fall into a routine. there are still so many things i haven’t seen in nyc, and probably will never see, because 90% of my time is spent in my own neighborhood. be a tourist in your own city

I wasn’t born here, but I was raised here & I used to resent that about my upbringing. I didn’t understand why I had to be raised away from my culture in a place that only made me feel alien but now that I’m older I’m finally beginning to appreciate it. I was raised here but I’m seeing this city in a way that I never have before. It’s so serene & quaint. I love how many local coffee shops we have & how rich we are in grass & trees. I love that my identity makes me unique, & it’s refreshing to meet other people like me in this southern, suburban city. It’s lovely here.

used to really annoy me because every day I walk past this famous view of my city on my daily commute - but one day I realised that people have literally taken flights and spent their hard-earned money just to come and see the view that I get every single day and it completely changed my perspective now my walk is full of joy, watching families, or couples, or friends all take picture of each other, admire the view, explore the place I take for granted no longer!!

So sweet to send them to thank them for your shared experience, and I’d much rather look at one of these than ten pics from that day

go to events even if u think they’ll be iffy - better to have some memories of living life than none, go to library, go sit on the nearest grass also u can’t expect good arts and culture if u don’t support the bad/amateur stuff as well 🦀

Eg in shower, on walks, during commute, making dinner, to go to sleep, getting dressed. be able to do all these comfortably in silence. then u can try phase them back in in a way where they actually contribute something and ur not just listening for the sake of it
