The ambient sound of the crowds soothes my tinnitus. I don't care about sports, teams, or outcomes. Just knowing that THIS EVENT is happening somewhere RIGHT NOW hits my brain just right.
Completely outside of the algorithm. Still has funny local commercials. Can be exciting, soothing, meditative depending on the game and the broadcast team.
Flexes your visualization skills, plus you often get more detail about the game and teams versus watching on the tv. I follow the Phillies, SF Giants, and Liverpool - each of them have free online radio streams, making it real easy to listen whenever they might be playing. I used to fall asleep to the Phils on the radio in the summertime growing up, helped grow my imagination in ways I didn’t realize until getting older.
I'd NEVER pay for a algo-driven, ad-saturated social network...so even if it's purely symbolic in the long run, I just upgraded to demonstrate with my wallet that there is a market for this cool community.
I know I'm not cool. That's why I appreciate the PI community for letting me play at being cool. I feel like a hipster pollywog with a protective froggie parent letting me explore the pond safely. Sure, at some point I'm likely to get snatched up as a seagull's breakfast, but I'll enjoy the pond while I can. Thanks.
