I feel like I won't be the first to recommend this. You, probably like me, have someone else's Criterion login/password and saw that Hal Hartley's films were featured. You ALSO didn't know about him despite being a self-appointed cinephile, so you watched them all, loved most of them and bought the ones you could afford in DVD format on ebay.
Anyway, I recommend the films of Hal Hartley. They're kinda perfect and idk why no one ever references them. Or maybe I'm the last to know?
if you wanted to understand my brain/personality/sense of humor i would say watch his movies. i find it interesting to find social commentary and meaning in his movies, but itβs also fun to just see them as absurd and somewhat disturbing.
feel free to amble along and maximize your time in the sun and fresh air. people are always like "you're in new york! walk fast!" but take it from a lifelong new yorker: you are allowed to chill...slow down...enjoy yourself. you don't always have to rush.
