BEING AN INFLUENCE
I heard a kid at work a couple days ago call another kid "Buster!" which is such a Me thing that it must have come from me. Also when I play red rover with kids I make orchestra composer gestures with my hands to prompt them to say the "red rover, red rover, may we come over?" bit and one time when it was a little girl's turn in she moved her hands in her version of that and it was so cute.

Yes, this is a cool thing. The easiest way I get this ball a' rollin' is the standard morning greeting with officemates (or someone you are going to be around for a few hours, not just passing on the street) and I bust out with some affectation, including: - Howdy, pardner! (pretend to tip my hat) - What up, my man!?! (finger guns?) - Decent morning, innit? 90% of the time I get a response in the same style, and it's so interesting to me that most people just follow this unsigned social contract. I'm imagine this is a USA specific thing.

LITTLE GIRL SAID I SOUNDED NICE AND THEREFORE MUST BE PRETTY
at my basic retail job sometimes we have to do overhead announcements for like idk backup cashiers and returns and whatnot. one day, some lady and her kid came up to me at register and while checking out the mom was like "oh did you do the announcement earlier?" And when I said yes she explained her kid (a little girl idk maybe 5-10 years old idk how kids work) heard my voice on the intercom and said very confidently to her mother that my voice sounded like I was a nice person and therefore I must be pretty and upon seeing me at register it confirmed her assumption and the little girl said I was the best and it made my day. ngl I still think abt it, kids can be so sweet man. (second place answer goes to the time a makeup student said I had perfect freckles and thought they were drawn on only for me to admit that they are real)

Greeting people in the most extra way
I’m always doing this to my workmates who now think I’m obsessed with them but it’s so fun! Format is, gasp, say their name and then a stupid little line.. favourites are: “As I live and breathe” “There she is” “Oh thank GOD” “as a lay dying” “An apparition!!” “Where have you BEEEN baby”

complimenting strangers on the subway
5 years ago on the subway i complimented an old lady wearing a pin-covered jacket and an elf-like hat She asked me which pin was my favourite & I pointed to one of animal from the muppets. She took it off, handed it to me, and walked away before I could thank her. It felt like I’d been given a good luck charm by some mystical being. I mentioned the moment 2 years ago in a songwriting class, and turns out she was a regular at the TA’s place of work :’) I think about her very frequently

printing off a bunch of articles and essays you want to read
Finally got around to printing off a bunch of the essays and articles that I had saved on my computer for a while. I find it makes it easier to get myself to actually get around to reading some of the stuff. Paper is also a nicer reading experience, with less distractions and eye strain.

Maginalia Search Engine
A search engine that filters out commercial websites so you can discover weird, small websites on different topics. I wouldn't use it as my main search engine but it's a cool way of finding stuff you otherwise wouldn't.
