i met some of my now dearest friends during 2020 in a leftist asian american podcast discord server while we listened to our own diy radio and had book club and thought too hard about things. it is one of the best things thatâs happened in my life. also just a very great origin story to recount irl.
Just a few weeks ago me and my IRLâs really close internet friend flew across the country to hang out with us! The internet can feel so hostile when youâre scrolling through something like Twitter but online communities absolutely exist, whether through Discord or video games or various forums, and Iâve formed so many very real connections through the internet đ„đ„đ„ You just need to seek them out!
one of my favorite activities
When I was 13 I started making friends on Xanga - some of who have become my closest long term friends IRL. I think itâs neat that something as simple as a shared love for a band can spawn such deep long lasting friendships that take you who knows where.
I have had internet friends since pretty much forever and still keep in touch with people I met on tumblr and early instagram. I love being like, âoh yeah my internet friendâ it makes me feel tapped in to another portal of life. And itâs soooo fun when you get a serendipitous opportunity to meet in person
my goal as of late is to enjoy movies without having to think too hard and this definitely fit the bill. i too want to live a life seeking the mundane contentment hirayama feels when he looks at sunlight peeking through the trees and surrounded by his collection of saplings, books, and cassettes. also chuckled because iâm pretty sure i saw the toto and uniqlo logos in the credits, and now i too want to go to tokyo and use the tadao ando toilet.
