When a museum is old and antiquated it becomes a museum museum- you can enjoy thinking about how it used to look and think about how people saw things way back when. The Natural History Museum in Manhattan is an obvious example of this. Old taxidermy dioramas of scenes in nature, wood grain everywhere… I wish I could only go to museum museums

🦴This is probably the best art museum in the city even though its goal is to be plainly didactic and show off some dinosaur bones. Just look at those dioramas. It’s all Off. As my colleague Louis Osmosis might say, it’s giving kunst. Philanthropy chic. I love that some corners of this place haven’t seen any sprucing up since like the 90’s. It feels abandoned and too big for its own good; each section suggests varying degrees of attendance and funding so there’s a weird fragmented feel to walking through the entire museum. Some rooms have flickering lights and are mad dusty. Definitely for fans of Baudrillard’s Simulacra and Simulations lol! I recommend going in the winter time.

I visited my local one yesterday, strolled around the permanent exhibition, looked at the current photography show and bought a couple of owl postcards on my way out.
It's probably my favorite local museum because of how old-fashioned it is - no screens, just printed text, quiet atmosphere, very beautiful old building. It was so relaxing and soothing for my head

🥔When I moved to New York the first time, I worked at a now-defunct music venue near Pumps and would go to the combination BP/Dunkin where I survived off of their incredibly cheap hashbrowns and iced coffee for an extended period. This time around, I have eaten them maybe 5 times a week, for...well, similar reasons. If anyone is not aware, the Dunkin App will reward you with free hashbrowns if you buy, like, 2 things. If you've made it all the way to the end of this rambling ode to the potato coin I highly recommend downloading the Dunkin App and raking in the savings
