All of my recent favorite items of clothing have been purchased in-person at a retail store. They remind me of when, where, and who I was at the time of making the purchase. Shoutout to Stag Provisions in Austin, Field Theory in St. Louis and Marshall Goods in Chapel Hill.
Online shopping is great for things I can’t always find in person. ssense and DSM and Mr Porter are usually where I find myself going. In terms of buying vintage, eBay and Poshmark are great as long as you know your dimensions. I’ve sort of stopped using Grailed entirely as of lately, everything is priced so wrong. Nothing can replace shopping in person though. Some shops have an insane presence that you can only experience by being there. DSM is an experience. Both Wythe and Drakes NY locations transport you to a western world & sartorial haven. I really love the expertise of the staff at 3Sixteen and SelfEdge and Blue Blue in Green when it comes to denim; they’re gods of their industry. And then it’s just fun to talk shop with the Noah staff. You don’t get that experience online. It’s wonderful to be so close to all these shops. Both work together, I think. But if you aren’t in a location where you can visit these places, then you sort of have to default to online.
recently stumbled across this lil shop run by a couple with a bajillion leather belts of all types. you can custom and have a lovely conversation as opposed to shop for same products in big, souless corporations like zara or urban outfitters. these type of shops exist for pretty much everything, just look for it. It makes the act of purchasing so much more interesting as there's a story attached to the person who sold it to you. I've also found it to be cheaper/ same price but the quality obviously better. We might be in the golden era of running shoes. Actually we might be on the decline from it on second thought. But the running shoes of today are not the running shoes of 10 years ago. And they’re not the running shoes of four years ago. Let me know if you need help picking a running shoe! Current rotation: • New Balance 1080 v13 for slower longer runs • ASICS Novablast 4 for peppier tempo runs • HOKA Mafate Speed 4 for trail • New Balance Rebel v4 for something in between
