Just me, or does it read as inherently bitchy? Just say “I can‘t make it” or “sorry, I’m busy” or like anything else. This kinda phrasing gives off “I’ve heard your plan and decided I don’t like it, so I’m gonna wait for something better to come in.” c.f. the way my sister responds to many of my invitations 😿
erraticcompendium thank you’d do that validation! This one was especially questionable since I asked her to join diner time with our elderly cousin who I have a relationship with and my sister wants to get to know better, so felt a bit out of line.
I‘ve been thinking about this a lot recently. I don’t know if this is just different speaking styles but I find it awkward when people don’t acknowledge what you say. like you say something and their response is on topic but kind of disconnected to what you said. it’s like they just want to say what they want to say and gloss over your statement as opposed to forming a response based off of what you just said. it makes me feel like they’re not actually listening to what I’m saying and it makes me feel awkward.
