It's sometimes a little stressful because they may not be paying attention much or may not love it as much as you do, but when they do love it it's the best feeling.

It’s a given, but I like the rest of the team, love movies. The first one I saw was Scooby Doo, according to my parents. I cried when it got loud so they took me out of the theater. I love my parents. Showing movies to them is a deep pleasure of mine. Just like cooking for them, or getting them that thing they wanted for their birthday. People are surprised when I say this, but I show everything I screen to my family beforehand. They’re the Wizard behind the curtain of my programming. I talk with them about what should go first, and discuss the common themes the shorts I pick share. It makes me a better curator and programmer having my mom, dad, and sister in the room for help.

I personally don’t enjoy watching this movie or find it funny, but, because of my parents; it is my favorite comfort movie. My mom is in general more of a pop/rom-com girlie so I understand why she likes watching this movie so much. Shes open to more experimental/classic movies, but this is a woman who has watched the soap opera General Hospital for 49 out of her 62 years of life. My dad, on the other hand, is a deeply religious Eastern Orthodox slav who kept the Andrei Rublev DVD from Netflix for two years and kept us from renting more than two movies at a time. His favorite movie is still The Bicycle Thief and he can get into long conversations with my husband about arthouse cinema and french new wave. Nowadays as he’s gotten more involved with the church, he will watch youtube videos of monks singing or listen to religious podcasts/sermons with the occasional documentary thrown in there. but BOY does he love the proposal!! If I go to my parents house after 8PM and they’re both in the living room, this movie will be on and my father will be CACKLING (he has a very infectious giggly laugh) and my mom will sometimes have tears in her eyes from laughing so hard or verge on hysteria from the poop humor in this movie. I love seeing them on such a same wavelength and losing it together at the same old jokes they’ve heard a million times, somehow it’s all still so fresh and funny to them. I love my parents dearly and know someday there will be a time where I can’t visit them and see them watching the proposal. I don’t care about the story, the actors, the plot, the writing, but I do care about The Proposal.

This is specifically for NYC people. In Ridgewood Queens there is a hole in the wall high quality chocolate shop. It’s run by an eccentric and amazing man named Constantine and his wife. He will talk your ear off for a half an hour about “the benefits” of chocolate and how it’s a panacea for pretty much everything. How big chocolate gives away most of the cocoa butter to the cosmetic industry. He’ll also talk to you about how he asks ChatGPT about chocolate and it’s wrong a lot of the time. You’ll then buy a bar even though it’s small and $10. But you will go home and have a little piece after dinner and never taste chocolate the same way again…

Ceramic pans are unfortunately not very long lasting, once the coating is damaged you can’t really fix it. Most of these pans also lose their nonstick qualities after a while. I suggest investing in a carbon steel or cast iron pan, which can be re-seasoned if damaged. Or stainless steel which is pretty indestructible as far as I can tell. These are lifelong pans!

Shelling causes you to be mindful. You can't really go on your phone or computer while shelling. It's a nice, deliberate activity that I've been enjoying lately.
